ATG World Championship - India v South Africa

South Africa secured a thrilling 2 wicket victory over India with minutes remaining of this Delhi Test. Chasing a target of 439 on a pitch helpful to spin, the tourists built their innings on a chanceless Barry Richards ton & an outstanding 153 from night watchman  Vernon Philander. This incredible win had looked unlikely on day 3 when MS Dhoni decided not to enforce the follow on with S Africa 224 behind. Kumble (5-50 off 27 overs) had devastated the S African 1st inns batting. However, S Africa bowled with aggression & control in restricting the home side to 214 in their 2nd inns. They then batted with genuine belief & skill on the last day. Tendulkar's opening day 102 will live long in the memory but this was Philander's match. Twice he put Ashwin into the stands & it is a shame he was not there at the end to hit the winning runs.
