England maintained their 100% record with a crushing victory over Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground in just under 3 days.
Australia won the toss and elected to bat first. They quickly found themselves in trouble, as Mark Wood and Sam Curran removed both openers with just 64 on the board. Labuschagne and Smith added 78 for the 3rd wicket before the Australians collapsed to 213 all out. Wood starred with 4 for 56, while Stokes and Jacks took 2 wickets each.
England also struggled on this wicket and were all out for 251. Bazball was difficult to execute well and England slumped to 176-7. A swashbuckling 62 from Will Jacks helped England take a 38 run lead and this helped to swing the game Englands way.
The wicket was beginning to assist the spinners as early as day 2, and Jacks took full advantage in the 2nd innings. He was brilliant, taking 8 for 92 (10 wickets overall in the match) as Australia crumbled from 111 for 1 to 251 all out. The visitors needed just 214 to win.
Australia may have been confident when England kept going with bazball and fell to 51-3. Cummins and Hazleood were bowling well, but a defiant stand of 134 between Pope and Brook put the game beyond doubt. Brooks hit 91 not out and Pope made 64 with the latter falling just before the win was ensured.
It was fitting that Will Jacks hit the winning runs, and it capped off a memorable performance, with him earning the man of the match award.
