England qualified in style for the knock out stage of the decades Test series with a crushing 219 run defeat of New Zealand at Headingley.
Ross Taylor put England in to bat on a green top and watched on ruefully as the home team finished day 1 on 370-4. Over 2 hours were lost to rain but England's positive batting approach, led by Pope's 182, negated that and put the Kiwis on the back foot.
To their credit the tourists bounced back on day 2, taking the last 6 England wkts for 50. Stone removed both openers and Woakes snaffled the vital wickets of Taylor (82) and Ravindra in the same over as NZ ended the 2nd day on 215-6.
England established a 1st inns lead of 147 on day 3 and then frenetic hitting from Duckett, Brook and Stokes set up a target of 413 for the hapless visitors.
Wickets were shared around on day 4 as only Henry Nicholls put up much resistance, last man out for 98 having scored 76 1st time round. England's brand of attacking cricket make them a headache for opposition captains. Ben Duckett played 2 cavalier knocks of 78 and 79, while Chris Woakes bowled with control and maturity for 7 wickets. But Olly Pope's 182 set the tone for England's win and he was deserving of MOM.
