India thrashed New Zealand by an innings and 104 runs in just over 3 days of their Hyderabad Test match.
The gulf in quality between the teams in Indian conditions was never more stark than the 1st afternoon when the Kiwis crumbled to 85 all out. The Hyderabad pitch had been described as 1 'of different moods' and for much of the 1st day it proved difficult for batsmen to get the ball off the square. However, this cannot excuse such spineless cricket.
India's openers, Gill (80) and Agarwal (107), displayed patience and no little skill. Iyer (61) grew in confidence, while Pant struck a delightful 84 that pushed India's innings to 434-8 before Rohit's declaration on the 3rd morning.
Faced with a formidable deficit of 349, New Zealand fought much better 2nd time round. It was a shame for them that Washington Sundar snaffled the wickets of Nicholls (66) and skipper Taylor (3rd ball duck) in the same over. Opener Tom Latham batted beautifully for 98 until he became 1 of Bumrah's 4 victims. His dismissal triggered a collapse of 6 for 32. Several notable Indian performances, but man of the match goes to Axar Patel, for his 7 wickets in the match & being a constant threat.
