Decades Tournament - 2020s India v 2020s England

India were left frustrated at the conclusion of their Bangalore Test against England as last pair Rehan Ahmed and Olly Stone denied the home team victory.

Rohit Sharma's men needed to win here, given Australia's success over New Zealand, to qualify for the knock out stages of the decades series. They played very well throughout but came up against some stubborn tail end batting when victory seemed assured.

India chose to bat first and made 351 thanks largely to 98 from Gill, Rohit's 92, and other contributions from Pant and Iyer. England's positive reply was typified by Brook's brilliant ton, as well as 131 from 177 balls between Woakes (93) and Ahmed (69).

Although England had a useful lead of 83, India's openers had reduced it to 5 by close of day 3. Rohit went on to make an imperious 127 on day 4, enabling him to declare before lunch the next day  with a target of 288 (53 overs plus last hour).

There was help for spinners on day 5 and wickets fell steadily as England picked up the challenge. But it was not to be for this fine Indian side, thwarted by a confident England team who shrugged off Will Jacks' bowling injury to be outstanding in the field.

Young Ahmed had an outstanding game, scoring runs & taking wkts & showing defiance at the end worthy of man of the match.
