Imran Khan's talented 1980s Rest of the World team thrashed South Africa's finest from the 2010s by 264 runs at Ahmedabad.
Both sides made 3 changes but that should not suggest this 3rd/4th place match was taken lightly. Imran was visibly delighted to win an important toss on what was expected to become a wearing wicket.
His compatriot Javed Miandad illuminated the 1st day with a wristy 109 as Rest of the World went on to make 334 in their 1st innings.
At tea on day 2 South Africa were comfortable, 138-2, with du Plessis & Markram on the front foot. But when the captain was bowled by Bracewell for 70, it triggered an evening collapse of 6 wickets for 44 runs. Markram went on to a splendid century as South Africa's 1st innings ended at 257, 77 behind.
Rest of the World's batsmen consolidated on day 3 as Javed came within 5 runs of twin hundreds. Imran set South Africa 417 to win in 5 sessions but, as the pitch started to misbehave, wickets tumbled with regularity. It was not a 152 all out pitch, but on the other hand the World bowlers displayed aggression and no little skill.
The Test match was over inside 4 days but both sides deserve credit for their performances in this competition. Javed was unquestionably man of the match.
