Decades Tournament - South Africa 1960s v Rest of the World 1980s

The 1960s South Africans completed a clinical 125 run win over the 1980s Rest of the World at the Wanderers and sealed their place in the Decades tournament Final.

World XI skipper Imran Khan chose correctly after winning the toss and electing to field.  He took 3 wickets and along with 4 from Hadlee and 3 from the leg spinner Abdul,Qadir, they dismissed the South Africans for just 221.  Dennis Lindsay top scored with 67.

The World XI quickly slumped to 31 for 4 however as South Africas pace quartet decimated the top of their order.  They rebuilt thanks to 82 from Javed Miandad, and ended up 217 all out, trailing by just 4 runs.

South Africa batted better in their 2nd innings and this ultimately turned the game their way.  A second 50 in the game from Eddie Barlow and another from Lindsay helped South Africa into a dominant position.  They were finally all out for 342, leaving the World XI an unlikely target of 347.

Left arm medium pacer Trevor Goddard then put the game beyond the Rest of the World with a fantastic spell.  He took 5 for 81 in 17 overs and a passage of play that saw the World XI lose 4 wickets for 33.  Skipper Imran Khan hit a defiant 77 not out, adding 104 with Abdul Qadir, but the result was never in doubt.

Neil Adcock took the final wicket of Wasim Bari to wrap up a huge win for South Africa, and they now wait to see who they will face in the final.

There were several special performances in this game, but the all round performance of Trevor Goddard sees him pick up the man of the match award.
